About the product

Ziółko Ground Turmeric is ground rhizome of Curcuma longa from India – one of the most distinctive ingredients in Asian cuisine. It is loose, intensely yellow-orange in colour, with a sweet-spicy flavour and a woody, earthy note, as well as a slightly musky aroma.

Curcumin – a pigment from the curcuminoid group – gives the spice its characteristic colour and acts as a natural food colouring. Turmeric is the basis of curry and masala blends, and has been used in Indian, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine for thousands of years.

Usage

A culinary spice for savoury dishes – curry mixes, masala, dahl, basmati rice, soups, stews, marinades for meat and fish, and yoghurt-based raita sauces. Also used to colour desserts and golden milk (turmeric + milk + honey).

Directions

Add at the start of cooking – turmeric develops its full flavour when in contact with fat (olive oil, ghee, coconut milk). Typical serving: 1/2 – 1 teaspoon per 4 servings of the dish. Goes well with ginger, black pepper, cumin, coriander and garlic.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, away from light, moisture and foreign odours.
